The organizers of CSECS/MWASECS 2020 are still looking for presenters and participants in a special one-day workshop (which will take place at the University of Winnipeg, October 23, 2020, not far from the main conference venue at the Inn at the Forks, Winnipeg).
Towards a New Eighteenth-Century History: Developing Dialogues between Eighteenth-Century Studies and Indigenous Studies
The aim of this workshop is to promote dialogues between two fields that historically have remained quite separate despite the significance of the eighteenth century in the history of empire and colonization and the both fraught and complicated history of relationships between Europeans and Indigenous peoples over the course of this period, with continuing consequences and reverberations in the world today. This event will bring together scholars in eighteenth-century studies and Indigenous studies who, because of the historical organization of academic disciplines and university institutions, have tended to work apart from one another.
If you are interested in participating in this workshop, we would like to extend an invitation to you to submit a 150-word proposal to csecs-scedhs-2020@uwinnipeg.ca by March 15, 2020 for either
1) a 15-20 minute conference paper on a subject that brings together Indigenous studies and eighteenth-century studies, or
2) a 5-10 minute informal presentation as part of the roundtable discussion.

There will be a number of special events attached to the workshop and conference, including a plenary talk by Dr. Cary Miller, Head of the Department of Native Studies at the University of Manitoba and author of Ogimag: Anishinaabeg Leadership 1760-1845, a walking tour with Owen Toews, author of Stolen City: Racial Capitalism and the Making of Winnipeg, and tours of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR).
