Dear colleagues –
For those of you in the early weeks of the fall semester, I hope that you are enjoying your students, that you have light and airy classrooms, and that you scheduled some down time in your work weeks. For those of you on a quarter system and later term starts, I hope that you can take a break from finalizing your syllabus and enjoy these late summer days.
Here are a few notes and reminders:
· Our St. Louis Conference:
· The Call for Papers has gone out for our #ASECS2023 conference in St. Louis, March 9-11, 2023. Deadline for submission is Monday Oct. 3, 2022, 11:59pm EDT. You can find the call and more information here: ASECS CfP 2023
· This Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at 8am PDT/11am EDT, please join our virtual “How to Apply to ASECS” Info Session. Registration is required - please register with enough time to verify your registration for on-time access to the virtual session. Info Session Registration
· New! Events and Deadline Calendar: Under the “More” tab at the top of our ASECS website, you can find a new “Events and Deadline” calendar. I’ll update it to include deadlines and events relevant to our ASECS membership over the next weeks.
· New! Drop-in hours! I’ll be holding virtual drop-in hours approximately twice a month. Registration is required. I’ll list the times on our new events and deadline calendar as well as the registration link. The first September date is now available: Wednesday Sept. 21 8am PDT/11am EDT. This first time will be an open session. Drop in for a few minutes, or stay the whole hour. Future drop-in hours may focus on specific topics as they come up.
· I’ll also be attending the German Studies Association’s conference Sept. 15-18, 2022 in Houston, TX. I’m chairing the panel “Enlightenment Thoughts and Ideals” on Friday Sept. 16 2-3:30pm. If you’ll be at the meeting, let me know, or just show up in the book exhibit after that panel and look for me and my ASECS cinch bags.
· Do you have an idea for a virtual panel as part of our year-round programming? We’re looking for topics with a scholarly, pedagogical, or professional/professional development focus. Contact me!
