ASECS is pleased to announce the winners of the 2020-2021 Innovative Course Design Competition:

· Emily Friedman, University of Auburn, “’Let people tell their stories their own way’: Tristram Shandy as Novel, Provocation, Remix"

· Kate Ozment, Cal Poly Pomona, “The British Enlightenment: A Traveler's Guide”

· Shirley F. Tung, Kansas State, “The Cult of Celebrity: From the Eighteenth Century to the Present Day”

Now in its 35th year, this annual competition promotes excellence in teaching eighteenth-century studies at the undergraduate level. Candidates provide a brief description of a course that they have recently designed (or that they propose to teach), and the three finest applications are selected by a committee of scholar-teachers. The awards are supported by contributions to the Shirley Bill Endowed Fund, which honors excellent teachers.

We hope you will make plans to attend the Innovative Course Design session at our 2021 Online Annual Meeting, where the three winning courses will be presented by their authors. You also are invited to visit the Innovative Course Design page of the ASECS website (presently under construction), which features papers, syllabi and other material supplied by past winners of the competition.
