Call for Applications: Gale-ASECS Non-Residential Fellowships

Gale and ASECS seek applications for 5 Gale-ASECS Non-Residential Fellowships, which will support research or teaching projects that rely on Gale’s Eighteenth-Century Collections Online

Parts I and II (ECCO) and use digital humanities methodologies. Awarded fellows will be given access to the Gale Digital Scholar Lab for the duration of their fellowship, a text and data mining and visualization tool built specifically to analyze primary sources.

Proposals from any subfield within eighteenth-century studies are welcome, but applicants must make clear how they will use digital methods and the ECCO corpus to further their research and teaching.

Each fellowship of $2,500 will support the equivalent of one-month’s full-time work (160 hours). Fellowships will be awarded by July 1, 2022. Fellowships must be completed by January 31, 2023. Awardees may dedicate four consecutive weeks of their full working hours to the fellowship project, or they may spread their work out over a longer period.

Within one month of the conclusion of their Fellowship, but no later than January 31, 2023, each fellow will submit a 2-3 page case-study report derived from their work that explains how they used the corpus of materials in ECCO and the Gale Digital Scholar Lab, and highlights the research or pedagogical value of their project.

To apply for the fellowship, submit the following documents to asecsoffice@gmail.com, by May 31, 2022:

  1. CV

  2. Project Statement of 2-3 pages that explains the proposed work to be done with ECCO and the Gale Digital Scholar Lab, its relation to the applicant’s broader research or teaching agenda, and the significance of the work to the field of eighteenth-century studies.

  3. A plan and proposed timeline for the work to be undertaken with fellowship support.

Eligibility: This Fellowship is open to all ASECS members with access to ECCO.
