Dear All,
The members of the organizing committee are writing to invite all those who might be interested in attending the online conference “Translation and Appropriation in the Long Eighteenth Century,” jointly sponsored by the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (CSECS) and the Midwestern American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (MWASECS).
This conference will run 13–16 October 2021.
As one of our registration options, we are offering a special attendee’s registration fee of 30 CAD for those who are not presenting but who as attendees would like access to the sessions and to the archive of recorded sessions that will remain on the online platform for 30 days afterwards.
We are very happy to attach a draft program (below), which lists all our currently scheduled sessions in both English and French.
We have three exciting plenary speakers: Ros Ballaster (University of Oxford), Cary Miller (University of Manitoba), and Reginald McGinnis (University of Arizona), and many other academic sessions related to our conference theme.
We have further additional special programing, including sessions running throughout the conference centred on the Indigenous eighteenth century, a virtual tour with Owen Toews, author of Stolen City: Racial Capitalism and the Making of Winnipeg, a demonstration by Bill Kerr (University of Manitoba) of Restoration acting techniques, pre-recorded materials intended to convey a flavour of the period, and a variety of themed salons.

To audience members who might also be willing to act as moderators, please send the organizers an email at csecs-scedhs-2021@uwinnipeg.ca, indicating one or two still unmoderated sessions that might interest you, referring to the current draft program. Please equally feel free to email us any questions about the event, including about registration.
Finally, we are asking for all conference presenters and attendees to register by SEPTEMBER 25th, so that we can give the company providing us with the online platform enough time to generate user names and passwords well in advance of the conference and to provide all presenters and audience members with the opportunity to orient themselves with the online platform.
We look forward to welcoming both presenters and other attendees in October, and in the meantime we wish everyone a safe and happy return to fall classes.
