For a long time, the wax portrait of a woman was a mystery . Feminine and nobly dressed she is seen with a scalped brain in her lap. The portrait stands amidst a collection of anatomical models that were revolutionary in the 18th century. For an audience of doctors who did not tolerate women in their ranks.

A long lost document now reveals the extraordinary story of this woman, recounting her relationship with the Pope and 80 models of male sexual organs that suddenly reversed the rigid role models of the 18th century.

The documentary drama THE LADY ANATOMIST depicts an unknown chapter in medical history and its impact on the gender struggle.

A Film by Iris Fegerl

Based on a book by Rebecca Messbarger
