TT position in Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Literature at U of Iceland

The Department of English at the University of Iceland invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Literature.

The successful applicant will contribute to a survey of British literature (1603-1789) as well as to undergraduate and postgraduate elective courses on Restoration and eighteenth-century literature, the rise of the novel, literature of the Enlightenment, and also potentially classes on transatlantic, global Anglophone, Irish, and/or North American literature. The successful applicant will also supervise B.A. essays and M.A. and Ph.D. theses in English Literature. Teaching is in English and therefore near-native proficiency in English is required. Most compulsory courses are taught by distance as well as on-site, so the successful applicant must be willing and able to participate in distance teaching. The teaching load will typically fall in the range of 2-2, but this can vary based on enrollment numbers, administrative duties, and research productivity. Qualification requirements

  • A completed Ph.D. in English literature in the field of restoration and eighteenth-century literature. Please note: ABDs will not meet the qualification requirements

  • Secondary interests in transatlantic studies, global Anglophone literature, Irish literature, and/or North American literature may be an advantage.

  • Research activity in the field of study and publications, as well as a clear vision for future research

  • University teaching experience is desired

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

  • Command of Icelandic is an advantage

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated interest in digital humanities is an advantage
