“Enlightenment legacy: the rights of man in a global perspective (2021-2023)”
Fondazione 1563 per l’Arte e la Cultura of the Compagnia di San Paolo has since 2013 supported research and advanced training in the field of the humanities. In a wider effort to pursue this goal, Fondazione 1563 is now expanding its fellowship programme to historical research in a global perspective. To this end, it has created the Turin Humanities Programme, a research initiative that will allow junior scholars to work on interrelated research projects under the guidance of especially appointed senior scholars.
The Scientific Committee of the THP and Fondazione1563 have decided to devote the first research cycle of the THP (2021-2023) to the investigation of the Enlightenment legacy: the rights of man in a global perspective. Fondazione 1563 is pleased to launch the first call for applications to award 4 two-year fellowships for advanced studies on this topic.
The 2020 call for applications is available online at www.fondazione1563.it For information and questions please email: info@fondazione1563.it
Applicants are invited to submit research projects of a maximum of 3000 words, plus bibliography. Projects are expected to engage with one or more aspects of the general research framework of Enlightenment legacy: the rights of man in a global perspective. Details of the research framework can be found here.
The Director of Studies for this programme (2021-2023) will be Vincenzo Ferrone, Professor of Modern History in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Turin, Italy.
Proposals are expected to focus on the worldwide legacy of Enlightenment in the field of the rights of man, especially but not exclusively in the nineteenth century, as described in the research framework. Proposals should also contain an illustration of the different project phases, the relevant sources and methodologies and the expected outcomes, which will be considered an integral part of the project itself.
Successful candidates will carry out their individual research projects under the supervision of the Director of Studies. They will also collaborate in the organization of activities such as seminars, conferences, lectures and summer schools, during which they will be invited to share their research projects with a larger community of academics as well as students and the general public.
